The Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center – Memorial and Cemetery for the Victims of the 1995 Genocide, in cooperation with the Federal Ministry for Displaced Persons and Refugees, has launched an important initiative as part of the preparations for the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide. This initiative opens the door to partnerships and comprehensive collaboration with the Bosnian diaspora.
"This anniversary represents an important moment for preserving memory, combating genocide denial, and promoting a culture of remembrance, both among the Bosnian diaspora and worldwide. The initiative aims to formally register associations, organizations, and informal groups within the Bosnian diaspora that wish to actively participate and collaborate with the Memorial Center for the 30th anniversary, regardless of where they operate and work. Registration allows all interested parties to be part of a global campaign coordinated by the Memorial Center, ensuring a unified and powerful message for this anniversary," stated Emir Suljagić, Director of the Memorial Center.
The Memorial Center will provide registered organizations and groups with comprehensive support to enhance the success and professionalism of their efforts. This includes high-quality photo and video materials documenting key moments in the history of the genocide and the activities of the Memorial Center, as well as the preparation of visual materials such as banners, flyers, and social media content tailored to the needs of each community. Additionally, the Memorial Center will offer educational materials in multiple languages, including curricula, brochures, and guides for schools, universities, and the broader diaspora public.
"We are also here to provide consultations and advice on organizing events such as panel discussions, art exhibitions, documentary screenings, lectures, and marches. Ultimately, our role is crucial for better coordination and technical support in planning and implementing activities at both local and global levels. Furthermore, the Memorial Center will coordinate a global campaign that will include educational programs, art exhibitions, public forums, and online activities, all aimed at raising awareness about the Srebrenica genocide. The campaign will culminate in events held on July 11, 2025, in major centers of the Bosnian diaspora," Suljagić noted.
The Memorial Center invites interested clubs, organizations, and groups from the diaspora to register via the link: https://bit.ly/30srebrenica-diaspora no later than March 1, 2025.
"The contribution of the diaspora is crucial to the success of this initiative. Together, we can ensure that the memory of the victims of the Srebrenica genocide remains permanently rooted in the consciousness of future generations and that the message of peace, truth, and justice spreads across the world. This is also an important step forward because we want a unified message to emerge from the entire Bosnian diaspora, and we can only achieve that through joint cooperation," concluded Suljagić.
