The Netherlands Compensations Commission Potocari is the independent administrator of te Srebrenica civil-law settlement arrangement. This arrangement offers surviving relatives of the deceased male refugees who were in the Dutchbat compound in Potocari in the late afternoon of 13 July 1995 a convenient way to receive a compensation payment.
The members of the commission are ms Sylvia Wortmann (chair), mr. Fred Hammerstein en mr. Ed Kronenburg. The commission visited the contents of the Memorial Centre and showed great interest in the horrible situation at the Dutchbat Compound in the days of 11, 12, 13 July.
Ms. Sylvia Wortmann: "It is terrible what happened here and many survivors live with terrible memories. We wanted to see the compound to which thousands of people had fled and we are deeply touched at the sight of the huge hall of the battery factory were so many people suffered. And we wanted to speak to some of the people who were here on July 11, 12 and 13 1995. Now we can better understand the situation and all the sufferings that people went through during the genocide. It is good that the Memorial Centre is making sure that we don't forget what happened here.”
Prior to the visit to the Memorial Centre the commission and the Dutch Ambassador laid a wreath for the victims of the Srebrenica genocide in the cemetery followed by a constructive conversation with the Mothers of Srebrenica.The conversation took place in the mutual understanding of both parties as well as in the understanding of the tasks in front of the commission during the implementation of the compensation.
